WHAT IS BOTOX?

Botox® is a dermal filler treatment, injected via a fine needle, which restores a youthful appearance to the skin, and is regularly used to minimize fine lines and wrinkles that result from the process of aging. Also called Botulinum toxin type A, Botox® is produced from a refined bacterium and works by temporarily paralyzing the facial muscles, giving skin a smoother, firmer and more youthful appearance.

Botox® is an elective cosmetic procedure, so usually health insurance providers will not cover it.

THE BENEFITS OF BOTOX.

Botox® has maintained its popularity because patients have found that the treatments have given consistent benefits such as increased self-esteem, temporary filling of wrinkles, creases and fine lines, treatment of migraine headaches, alleviation of overactive bladder symptoms and the treatment of increased underarm perspiration.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR BOTOX?

Anyone seeking a more youthful appearance may be a good candidate for Botox® treatment. Research has found that this is an excellent preventative treatment for younger skin to ward off wrinkles as you age. It is also an appropriate treatment for mature skin that has lost its elasticity and firmness. If you are unhappy with the presence of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines, Botox® may be your solution.

HOW IS BOTOX ADMINISTERED?

Botox® is administered by injection using a very thin, fine-gauge syringe. The number of injections required for each treatment depends on the number and severity of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines. In most cases, a single treatment, performed in our office, lasts about four to six months, and patients regularly return for ongoing treatments. Over time, the facial muscles become retrained, and patients require fewer follow-up treatments.

How Should I Prepare?

When scheduling your Botox® consultation with A NEW YOU, please let us know if you have received any other injections over the prior four months, as well as whether you take certain medications, such as aspirin and other blood thinners, allergy medications, sleep aids, NSAIDS, or muscle relaxers. You may have to temporarily suspend medications while receiving Botox® treatments.
